about

Venus Weeps was originally titled Sneaky Pete (a word my father uses for a flask of alcohol concealed in a pocket and nipped at when no one is looking). That title, as my good friend Asteroth Abhor informed me, was stupid as it had nothing to do with the song itself. Ultimately I agreed. Now, if you must know, the song is about Lucifer, the morning star. As an atheist I had grown sick of songs about Jesus and god (the same person if you believe the stories) and I decided there weren't enough heartfelt tributes to the angel who had fallen so long ago. As a fan of the guy I feel he's gotten a bad rap. Supposedly he's the corrupter, the devil who leads souls astray. But I see him as a true fan of man. I believe he doesn't want to harm us, no not at all, but, rather, he wants us to live to our full potential; to live life to the fullest. That's all. Nothing more.

lyrics

I've been called so many names by so many tribes
It's no wonder that I've grown into the fear they hide
It's no wonder that I symbolize all pain and fear
It's no wonder that they tell their children I lurk near
because I represent their fear of dark and the unknown
It's a question man has pondered since the days of old
and it's me who they would blame for their own selfish ways
it is me to whom they point and say please go away

I fell for you
to fight for you
I came for you
fell from grace for you

I've grown accustomed to my persecuted name
it's a title that I wear without a shred of shame
it's a title that you gave me as your whipping boy
to relieve you of your guilt that I'm your your source of joy
All the good in life is gained through knowing me
all the things in life you love are what have come from me
I'm the source of the all sweetest things you've ever known
but It's your greediness that leaves you all alone

I fell for you
to fight for you
I came for you
fell from grace for you

Hate me
when you should love me
Run from me
when you should run to my arms
Distrust me
when you should embrace me
You want me
but say I've poisoned your heart

Morning star bringer of the light
hated son of of those who seek to dwell in night
all those who fear the truth all those who fear what's right
all those who've been misled by those who wield their might
with a holy fist clad in their royal shades
and tell their tales of men interred in ancient caves
supposed son of god
and in his name they kill
when all I want for man is but to seek their will

Hate me
when you should love me
Run from me
when you should run to my arms
Distrust me
when you should embrace me
You want me
but say I've poisoned your heart
