The Maypole Dance is an interpretation of the black plague as told by a musical theater group run by a depressive, gothic, art-fag. It was recorded late at night under the influence of a fair amount of alcohol, an even fairer amount of cigarettes, and, the forest demon himself, Asteroth Abhor. At heart it's really the story of a man who is dying of an incurable disease who is telling his beloved that, yes, this is the end but that it's Ok. I think this song is best perceived if you imagine it sung by Tom Cruise playing the character of a moribund vampire Lestat who has recently discovered Scientology.
